We enjoyed going through the locks and found the river and Lough Erne to be very quiet with few other boats doing the same route as ourselves. We had a ball and the best weather possible - we headed up, stayed in Banagher one night, Shannonbridge another - family came by car and we met them in Clonmacnoise for the day. Would certainly recommend it - great holiday.
